Prepositions are important words. We use prepositions more frequently than other individual words. Prepositions teach us location and time. In the classroom we use prepositions while driving our buses under, around, between, beside and outside of furniture. The students love this activity. They are learning to follow directions, learning new words, and moving all at the same time. Prepositions we use frequently in the classroom include across, at, around, before, behind, beside, between, below, in, on, out, under, up, off and outside.

Wow! Those words are the same words that describe where our body is in space...and doing those obstacle courses helps us understand our spatial relations...sizing, where our body is, what position our head is and it is where we can see different views from our eyes. This in turn helps us understand where we need to put our hands when we write and which way to draw.
